At first glance, this design might be pretty abstract – but actually it’s inspired by a butterfly! Initially the colors are what grabbed my attention. I didn’t even think to use it for a nail design until after the fact!
Zoya was so kind to send me their Bridal Bliss collection, which I knew I’d want to use for the nude base. It features mostly neutral colors, and I chose Chantal as the nude shown here. On its own, I wouldn’t choose this shade to match my skin tone (its a tad too yellow/neutral), as pink-ier nudes tend to look better on me. But it was a perfect match to the butterfly and applied beautifully in 2 coats!
Once my base color was pretty much dry, I outlined all the different parts with a brown shade – Zoya Chanelle, I chose this first because going right in with black would create a harsher line, and looking at the photo the lines have black and brown in them.
Next, I applied the orange details with Artistic Colour Gloss Summer Crushin’ – a rust-y orange. When painting complicated designs such as this, I try to start with the lighter/more sheer colors to make it easier. Sometimes if you need to apply it over a darker color it can be more difficult to get them opaque!
Now I applied the turquoise, OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook…one of my favorites! Once I felt good with how everything looked, I finished up the design with black nail polish and completed the nails with top coat.
Also, check out my post on instagram! I have another angle of the design <3
