Negative Space Stars

Negative Space Star Nail Art

Happy New Year everyone – I’m so excited for this year, I have so many nail ideas that I can’t wait to share! For today I have a few of my favorite things wrapped into one: negative space, patterned design, and these amazing colors.

As Revlon’s Global Nail Stylist, I got to play with these amazing new shades from their ColorStay Gel Envy line and create this fun design for you! Jewel tones are very on trend all year around – the rich shades are great for Winter but they transition nicely into Spring because they’re pops of color.

For negative space nails I like to begin with either a clear base coat or a very sheer color to perfect the nail. Revlon’s ColorStay Gel Envy range has the base coat and color wrapped into one, so I chose to paint one coat of “Up in Charms” – a sheer nude. Not having to paint a base coat speeds up drying time, and for this particular line it actually gives it extra staying power!

For the stars I used “What Happens in Vegas“, “Smoke and Mirrors“, and “Try Your Luck“. I used a small nail art brush to paint the outline of the star shape and to fill it in! See my tutorial below for a demonstration:

And no nail art look is complete without a top coat, I used Revlon’s ColorStay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat to seal in my design and give it tons of shine!

What do you guys think? Is negative space still on trend? Let me know in the comments! <3
