REVIEW: Mariah Carey by OPI Collection

I bring you…Mariah Carey by OPI for Spring 2013! This collection features 8 shades – 4 “studio shades” and 4 Liquid Sand. At first I was a bit hesitant to try the Liquid Sand, but I love it! It is basically a matte glitter polish, and when it dries it finishes to a sand-like texture. Read on below to see closeup pictures of each color on my nails…

A Butterfly Moment is a gorgeous pinky nude with a hint of gold shimmer. Went on opaque with 2 coats, and I think it looks beautiful! In the closeup shot you can see the gold shimmers, its very subtle. Love it!

Sprung is a copper metallic polish with hints of red and gold. This one was opaque in 2 coats as well. Beautiful!

Anti-Bleak is a fuchsia, but kind of leans more towards the purple side. In these pictures it looks a bit “rubber-y” but in real life it doesn’t look like that…strange! This one is my favorite from the “Studio Shades” in this collection! Looks pretty similar to OPI Casino Royal from the 007 collection but I still love it 🙂

Pink Yet Lavender is a fun light pink hex glitter with tiny silver glitters. I think this would look great over another color! I wanted to show it on its own for the swatch so you guys can see the glitter better. I did 1 coat on each nail, except I did 2 over my ring finger. It was a bit difficult to get the glitters to apply evenly on my nail, so I did the “patting” method – instead of painting on the glitter like regular polish you tap the brush all over the nail to get the glitter where you’d like. Now onto the Liquid Sand…drumroll please…

Get Your Number is the first Liquid Sand polish that I tried. I must admit…I was pleasantly surprised! I never was much of a fan of the textured trends (crackle, caviar, etc.) but these are great. Using OPI’s instructions, I applied a base coat, and then just 2 coats of polish…NO top coat! It dried pretty quickly to a matte finish, yet its still pretty glittery. My first concern was that it would be too rough and snag on clothes or be scratchy, but it definitely isn’t a problem. The texture really is like sand (only finer!).

Can’t Let Go is another Liquid Sand polish! This one is purple, and has bigger glitters lightly spread throughout. Another thing about the Liquid Sand polishes, you can’t put top coat on them! If you apply top coat, it’ll look nice and shiny for a couple minutes, and then start to dry with a similar finish as the polish on its own. These polishes are great on their own, but also probably not the best to paint nail designs over!

Stay the Night is a black base with black and hot pink tiny glitters. This one I did with 2 coats, but it was still a bit sheer. One more coat would’ve done the trick!

The Impossible is a pinky red matte glitter, which application was quite impossible for. Looking at the bottle, you see TONS of the star glitters! I expected when I applied it to my nails for them to get a few on there, but nope :/ I had to dig around the bottle to get a few onto my nails. Other than the issue with the stars, this ones a great polish!

Well there you have it…OPI’s Mariah Carey collection! What do you think? Would you try out the Liquid Sand Polishes? Leave me a message in the comments! <3

I love these polishes! I can’t wait to go and buy some myself! (= but I was wondering, do you ever use revlon nail polish? If so, do you get air bubbles sometimes in your nail polish when it dries? And if so, how do you prevent that? Haha (= thank you! (=

I’ve tried a couple of Revlon’s polishes! I never have experienced the air bubbles. I’ve noticed that will happen to me if I put too many thick coats of polish. Another possibility could be something to do with shaking up the polish? Hope that helps! Thanks!

I’m glad to see a review about this because my concern, too, was getting stuck on clothes or being too rough. Glad to see it doesn’t..can’t wait to try it out! Is removing the sand nail polish is “tough” as removing glitter?

Definitely not as tough as normal glitter! Still a bit difficult but not too bad 🙂

Saw comment about having. Difficulty removing glitter polishes. I saw a tip somewhere suggesting using a piece of felt and polish remover. The felts texture grabs the glitter making it a bit easier.
